Theranos – Today known as one of the worst investments of all time.
The problem? Their technology was nothing but an empty promise. And yet, it sounded completely feasible: why shouldn’t it be possible to run an extensive health screening with just a few drops of blood? No need to double-check with a scientist, right?
We all know how that ended.
While a lot of things are possible today and moonshot ideas have become reality, 𝘄𝗲’𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗮𝘄𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. Finding a way around these limitations takes time, a shitload of innovation, and rigorous validation.
Some founders are true visionaries, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, but there are black sheep out there as well.
Overpromises don’t just set unrealistic expectations; they can jeopardize entire industries. Trust is easily lost and nearly impossible to rebuild.
