Thoughts of an idealist about the polycrisis

Human society exists in a state of polycrisis; entangled in war, racism, and an unchecked drive for destroying our planet, the very foundation of our existence. How irrational!

Where is this coming from?

The core of (self-) destructive behavior is ALWAYS a lack of connection. More precisely connection to one-self. True compassion for other beings and nature can only arise if we are able to be compassionate to ourselves. This ability should be learned in childhood, taught by nurturing parents. Yet, not all parents are equipped to teach this, as many never learned it themselves. This transgenerational cycle of disconnection perpetuates pain and dysfunction. However, it can be broken! Through therapy and inner work, individuals can build a deep connection to themselves. They achieve inner peace, which radiates outward, positively influencing the world around them.

The solution to all our problems? Everyone just go to therapy and there wonยดt be any wars or climate crises anymore? Can it be that easy?

A large part of humanity has lived – and still lives- in survival mode: War, poverty, (emotional) abuse, and other forms of violence create a hostile environment where healing, self-connection and rational thinking is not possible. Instead, people numb themselves with (drug-) addictions, they are full of envy, fear, and self-doubt, and loneliness, possibly harming others as a result.

Itยดs fight, flight, or freeze. While others fight to conquer the world in one way or another, others allow them to do so and simply try to stay invisible and hidden instead of taking action or speaking up. And which problem has ever been solved from running away from it or turning our backs?

The harsh truth is that some people will not find the strength to connect to themselves. Not everyone has the courage to truly embrace the dark corners of their mind and not everyone is willing to even consider it.

For many years I have felt that the world has been infected by a โ€œpsychological virusโ€ that easily spreads from person to person. The transmission and internalization of external negative beliefs and the severe consequences they evoke.

What a world this would be if we would strengthen and support each other?

I imagine it would be one that supports diversity and rewards kindness and regeneration.

Every one of us is responsible for solving the polycrisis we are facing. The journey begins with awareness and reflection; reaching a state where we feel capable of meaningful action.

You donยดt need to be a scientist, politician, engineer, or entrepreneur to do your part. First of all, try to find the most compassionate version of yourself and find your skills and passions that will change the status quo for the better.

Letยดs break the cycle! Letยดs create a new one!
